Mika & Lolo is a bilingual children’s book written in English and Spanish.

Mika & Lolo are 2 cousins who notice that they are sometimes treated differently just because one of them is a girl, and one of them is a boy. They decide to note down these little everyday differences and discuss them with their dad – opening not only their eyes, but those of their parents and grandparents too.

The book invites kids and their parents to question the aspects of everyday life that are imposed by their gender and encourages them just to be themselves, no matter whether they are a girl or a boy.

Just finished the book – funny, thought-provoking, really engaging story, looks great, and amazing characterisation for a book that length! Love it!

Great book, my son loved the story and picked up some Spanish words while reading it. He has read it a few times now so he really enjoys it!

I got Mika & Lolo for my cousin as a Christmas present and he absolutely loved it. The characters are inspirational and contemporary. The pretence of the book is unique and just what we need! You can truely feel the passion the author put into the book. Would highly recommend.

  5. Katie Wallace

Mika & Lolo is a fantastic, engaging story that is interesting not only for children but for adults too. The fact it is written in Spanish and English only adds to its appeal. I really enjoyed it!

  6. Teresa

Great book by a credible defender of equality.
It’s small, but it takes a lot of work and illusion behind, and it is shown.
Children have to learn from childhood that crying, getting dirty, playing princesses or cars, blue and pink, have no gender, something that many older people still have internalized, and thanks to Mika and Lolo we all learn together.
Highly recommended! I hope there is more!

  7. Nikki

My daughters and son (ages 12, 2 and 1) love this book. It’s nice to have a book that isn’t directed to one gender e.g. princesses or dragons (actually, the stereotype of that gender). It has raised issues for our older daughter to think about and it’s great practice for her Spanish too! I think Granda could do with reading it…

  8. Maria

Mika y Lolo is a book about stopping gender stereotypes. With beautiful illustrations it’s s a must to any boy and girl!
